Social Media and Content Manager

The Steinberg Institute (SI), a leading advocacy organization in California working to upend the status quo and dramatically raise the profile and increase the effectiveness of mental health policymaking in California, seeks a Social Media and Content Manager (SMCM). The SMCM will assist with SI’s communications and marketing efforts to promote our policy and legislative agenda and research; increase engagement with our followers, partners and supporters; boost our social media profile; and increase our impact and expand our reach.

Working with the Director of Communications and the SI team, the SMCM will produce digital content to amplify and promote SI’s legislative agenda, research, blogposts and events; issue press releases, maintain press lists and liaise with reporters; post copy and make changes to the SI website; produce newsletters; and assist in the drafting of op-eds, speeches, and other external communications.

This role is perfect for a resourceful, creative individual who has a passion for public policy and for advancing access to mental health services and social and racial equity; a knack for writing accessibly; at least two years of experience working in communications, marketing, journalism or media relations; and a track record working with digital communications tools.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent writing skills and demonstrated ability to translate complex concepts into accessible, audience-specific materials.
  • Understanding of current and emerging social media, email, and video and audio platforms.
  • Video and photography experience
  • Understanding of online analytics tools
  • Strong organizational skills, detail orientation, and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in an emotionally intelligent and collaborative manner.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically post to social media channels and develop social media content to promote SI’s advocacy campaigns, often in collaboration with partner organizations.
  • Assist with the management of SI’s website, posting new content in consultation with staff and consultants.
  • Assist with fielding media inquiries and pitching stories.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, public health, public policy, or related field.
  • Minimum two years of work in a communications-related field such as public relations, communications consulting, media, and/or journalism.
  • Passion for the Steinberg Institute’s mission is essential, and knowledge of mental health care issues – including the intersectional issues of homelessness, criminal justice etc – is preferred.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is commensurate with training and experience. As a result, the pay range is between $65,000-$75,000 annually for a more seasoned professional.  The institute provides a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, professional development, parking/commuter assistance, paid time off; and retirement.  This full time, exempt position is based in our Sacramento office (when we’re able to return safely).
