Recently-appointed California Health & Human Services Agency (CalHHS) Secretary Kim Johnson will lay out her vision for CalHHS at the Steinberg Institute’s Vision 2030 Solution Symposium on February 25. Johnson will keynote the event, which will bring together leaders, policymakers, philanthropists, and advocates from across the state to celebrate a decade of progress in mental health and substance use reform while looking ahead to the future of behavioral health.
Johnson was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom in September and began her term October 1. She has over 25 years of experience working in social service, at both community-based organizations and in government.
Prior to her appointment as Secretary, she spent five years serving as Director of the California Department of Social Services. She considers herself a staunch advocate for California’s families and has also held positions as Deputy Director of the Family Engagement and Empowerment Division, CalWORKs and Child Care Branch Chief, and Child Care and Refugee Programs Branch Chief.
Johnson joins State Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda), Assemblymember Gail Pellerin (D-Santa Cruz) and more than 20 other distinguished guests slated to speak at the event. Sacramento-based award-winning musician The Philharmonik (Christian Gates) will perform, as well as participate in a discussion with former Mayor Darrell Steinberg about the importance of mental health.
