Nominate a Steinberg Institute Champion
Each May during Mental Health Awareness Month, we announce our Steinberg Institute Champions and share their stories, with the hopes of honoring them and inspiring others whose selfless work inspires us all. We honor Champions whose work aligns with the goals of the Steinberg Institute Vision 2030 initiative:
- Modernize and strengthen California's behavioral health workforce to meet the diverse needs of the entire state.
- Reduce the number of unhoused people with mental illness or substance use disorder by half.
- Reduce the number of people entering hospital emergency departments due to behavioral health crises by half.
- Reduce the number of people with mental illness entering our criminal justice system by half.
Consider your Champion nominee for the Richard Von Horn Award.
Recipients should meet the following criteria:
- Works toward the betterment of Californians living with mental illness, through direct service, advocacy or research
- Empowers Californians with mental illness to have agency in the type of care they receive
- Provides opportunities for recovery and a life with purpose and dignity for people living with mental illness
- Advocates for innovative solutions to improve the quality of care.
