Statement of Ethical Practices and Transparency

The Steinberg Institute is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in all aspects of our work. As advocates for behavioral healthcare systems transformation in California, our mission is rooted in integrity, transparency, and accountability.

1. Integrity in Advocacy and Decision-Making
We prioritize the needs of the Californians we serve and base our strategies and initiatives on thoughtful analysis, and inclusivity. We strive to mitigate personal bias and undue external influence in our decision-making to ensure the best outcomes for California’s most vulnerable populations.

2. Commitment to Transparency
We are dedicated to maintaining open communication with our partners, and the public. We share information about our initiatives, policies, and financials in a clear and accessible manner to build trust and foster collaboration.

3. Accountability to Our Mission
We hold ourselves accountable to our mission of transforming California’s mental health and substance use care systems. Our efforts are driven by our Vision 2030 goals of reducing system involvement for individuals with behavioral health conditions and creating a robust and effective behavioral health workforce. This includes regularly evaluating our programs and initiatives to ensure they align with our mission and deliver measurable impact.

4. Respect for Equity and Inclusion
Equity and inclusion are at the core of our work. We are painfully aware that people living with behavioral health conditions are disproportionately represented in carceral settings, on our streets and in our hospitals, facing shorter life expectancies. We strive to amplify the voices of historically underserved and marginalized communities, ensuring their needs are represented and addressed in all aspects of our work.

5. Ethical Use of Resources
We ensure responsible stewardship of all resources entrusted to us, including donor funds, grants, and partnerships. We allocate resources strategically to maximize their impact on improving behavioral health systems and outcomes. We maintain a “Silver” designation from Candid, a leading Non-Profit financial transparency reporting organization.

By adhering to these principles, the Steinberg Institute demonstrates its unwavering commitment to ethical leadership and transparency in our efforts to transform behavioral healthcare systems and create lasting change.
